Teacher, Carrie Hoke
Mrs. Hoke grew up in Montgomery and has a BA in Russian and Slavic Studies with a minor in Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin. A fluent Russian speaker, she has traveled extensively across Russia and Eastern Europe, and studied Russian language and history at Novosibirsk State University and Moscow Linguistic University. She has extensive experience teaching Russian, Latin, and Spanish in various homeschool and private settings and is thrilled to have taken students to study abroad in immersion language programs.
Carrie has been married to her husband, Tommy, for 18 years, and they have three children. Jimmy, age 16, is a dual-credit student at Lone Star College. Mary, age 14, is a freshman at Montgomery High School. Sarah, age 12, attends Montgomery Christian Academy. She and her family love music and the arts and lead worship together at Singleton Bible Fellowship, where Carrie enjoys playing cello. In her free time, she enjoys studying new languages, reading, fiber crafts such as knitting and weaving, musical theater, and traveling.
Carrie has a strong passion for foreign languages and seeks to inspire that same passion in her students by incorporating history, culture, literature, and art into a thorough study of the language. She believes that learning another language changes us in a way that no other subject can. When we learn to speak another language, worlds that had been previously closed to us suddenly open before our eyes. There are now millions of people with whom we can communicate; people whose lives we can share, stories we can read, and songs we can sing. As Christians, this takes on a much deeper and important meaning; sharing the gospel in someone’s own language touches the heart in a powerful way. Carrie looks forward to the exciting journey that she and her students will be taking at Montgomery Christian Academy.
